This project  required  the  establishment of  native
plants, on the excavations  created  as the result of
the Marsden Cove marina development.  This included two constructed wetlands and a large watercourse that required a mass revegetation and wetland planting.  The correct plant selection and methodology used has been an essential element to the successful outcome of this project.

Background

Marsden Cove is a new coastal marine development on the shores of the Whangarei Harbour.  The development consists of 350 canal frontage lots, a 230-berth marina and 350 residential lots.

As a result of the development the existing watercourse was diverted through a series of constructed wetlands, a man-made water course and then out to sea.


Purpose
  • To meet Resource Consent requirements of the Whangarei District Council.

  • Canopy closure of the new plantings needed to be achieved within a 3 year time frame.

Scope

  • Stage 1 - Review Planting Plan and provide methodology
  • Stage 2 - Supply and plant eco-sourced plants
  • Stage 3 - Ecological weed control
