Wightman_Wetland_Development.JPGWorks Overview

The Wightman wetland development and enhancement project commenced in December 2006; Wetland Solutions have been heavily involved in both setting specifications in line with Council requirements and responsible for the physical implementation of the works.  All stages to date have been completed on time and within budget.

Works included:
  • Planting specifications
  • Weed control advice
  • Wetland and revegetation planting
  • Plant supply (24,000)

Background

The property is based in the Rodney District and the land is predominantly used for grazing cattle, sheep and horses.  Throughout the property there were pockets of wetland area that were historically drained for farming purposes.  To ensure the success of this wetland restoration the hydrology of the land had to be returned to its former state, in this case the re-contouring was carried out by the landowner.

The site now boasts two large, and ecologically functioning wetland areas, with plans for a third wetland enhancement firmly in place.

Purpose
  • The desired outcome was to create additional titles to the property using the enhanced and restored wetland areas, in order to fulfil the Rodney District Council requirements for rural subdivision.

Scope
  • Stage 1 - Site visit and provide planting specifications

  • Stage 2 - Implement Planting Plan

  • Stage 3 - Plant replacements and maintenance
