This project required the establishment of native plants, on the excavations created as the result of the Marsden Cove marina development. This included two constructed wetlands and a large watercourse that required a mass revegetation and wetland planting. The correct plant selection and methodology used has been an essential element to the successful outcome of this project.
Marsden Cove is a new coastal marine development on the shores of the Whangarei Harbour. The development consists of 350 canal frontage lots, a 230-berth marina and 350 residential lots.
As a result of the development the existing watercourse was diverted through a series of constructed wetlands, a man-made water course and then out to sea.
To meet Resource Consent requirements of the Whangarei District Council.
Canopy closure of the new plantings needed to be achieved within a 3 year time frame.
