Wetland Solutions were contracted to Auckland Council to undertake the construction and planting of a rain garden. This project also involved planting and weed management within other areas of Hooton Reserve.
- On-going Weed Management
- Plant Supply (8,400)
- Rain Garden, Riparian Margin, Native In-filling and Amenity Planting
- On-going Plant Maintenance
The creation of a rain garden in the Hooton Reserve allows water run-off from the nearby roads and pavements to flow into the garden to reduce the risk of flooding and to filter the water before it enters the adjacent stream.
The desired outcome is to create an effective rain garden, which is also visually pleasing. Planting within the reserve will contribute to and enhance the existing native vegetation.
To collect run-off water from impervious surfaces
To filter the run-off before it enters the stream
To be a visually appealing landscape feature of Hooton Reserve
To restore the area to be dominated by native species
