Kawau Island Wastewater Renewal

1 2 3 4 5

Works Overview

The Department of Conservation commissioned Wetland Solutions to investigate onsite wastewater disposal matters relating to Mansion House on Kawau Island. Wetland Solutions carried out an analysis of the pond sediment and found that with some cost effective modifications, the life of the existing 2 pond systems could be extended by 40 years thus avoiding the expensive undertaking of decommissioning the ponds as well as meeting the Resource Consent conditions.

Physical Works included:

  • Install Raised Outlet Riser
  • Install Floating Treatment Island
  • Install Passive Flow Control Device
  • Install Ultrasonic Algae Control Device
  • Install Influent Aeration System
  • Install Automated Pump Controller & Aerated Effluent Disposal System
  • Install Remote Monitoring & Reporting System

The Resource Consent was due to expire, the existing final disposal field had failed and there were concerns that the oxidation ponds needed to be decommissioned.

The project purpose was to be able to meet the current regulatory requirements and re-new the Resource Consent that was due to expire.
